you don't have to write a complex song or be technically proficient to write an awesome song, or even an awesome album

"There are bands that use all of those things in greater quantity/quality then others."
whether or not theyre using these things in 'greater quality' is subjective
if you like noise music youll consider a noisy timbre or w/e better
if you dont you wont
wtf is this argument

and ya food is perspective, but you wouldn't say that a fully cooked and tender steak isn't as good as cow meat that's been boiled in toilet water and spiced with shit because its perspective.

you completely distorted my argument way to go retard
|

okay but whether or not they do it better is opinion. you might think that opeth are the absolute best at incorporating acoustic passages into their songs but someone might still think that simple plan does it better. there's no right or wrong when it comes to listening to music, no matter how bad you think some artists are.
well I guess that's where we disagree.

Album Rating: 3.5
this isnt fucking disagreement what the fuck it's a matter of whether music is objective or subjective and it's subjcetive fuck ughshfsjdfh

how can you disagree - it's how people formulate their opinions, period. people aren't born into this world with the thought that
opeth does [insert whatever here] better than everyone else hardwired into their brains.
if this was true, fireaboveice would never have written that review saying Abbey Road was a 2, because the vast majority of the
world considers it a classic

There is no music-o-meter that tells me what level of good the music that comes out of my speakers is. There is no mathematical algorithm that measures how good an artists songwriting is or isn't. If I enjoy listening to Brokencyde, then by all means, it's good to me, and I'm not going to let anyone tell me otherwise.

I just think that the line that I draw between objective and subjective can be based off of musical theory and how well its used.
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
but how 'well' it's used is subjective in itself
i mean there's following standard theory i guess but thats not gonna appeal to everyone so
your arguments are so circular wtf

so you're only interested in extremely technical music?
|
| |
no because anything- rhyming in hip hop, emotional ambience in post rock, catchiness in pop music, determining how well its done can all be derived in objective music theory.

i've taken two courses of musical theory and there never was a component on what makes a song "catchy"

how well melodies resonate?
uggh, fine:P.

What you learn in musical theory, is how certain notes work together, and why some do not create a desired sound, and how you can shift certain things to make music the way you want it.
Example: Gypsy minor scale.

that's basic shit, it doesn't explain why i want to blow a load every time I hear the bass drop in on "American Boy" or the bridge to "Love Story" is so sweet
