Kirlian is my fav from what I've heard by a decent margin, but I also dig Arboreal (very 3.7-3.9core and unlikely to dethrone this if you fw it, but worth a peek)

i tried listening to this again recently (some time within the last two years) and the electric guitar parts piss me off

yeah, i remember that being an issue. didn't mind em on Kirlian because they had a gameboy dork kinda flair to em, but hearing him go full Cool Metal Fusion turns me off this. Shpongle nailed foreground guitars on everything-and-the-kitchen-sink ""ambient"" albs on Nothing Lasts; don't think I've heard anything in that (admittedly q) niche that's a patch on those bois

Breaking news potsy hates guitars lol

Def feel like it would get gimmicky/tiresome if it was every or even a lot of tracks but I think it adds some nice variety to the album as it stands

as much as i like to make a meme out of me hating guitars it seriously just doesn't work for me in this context.

Nah I totally get that they are very angsty and fairly unoriginal guitar ideas i just like hearing rock/metal stuff in other contexts

Yeah exactly, that kind of 'angst' it adds is just not a mood that I look for at all in downtempo music, really takes me out of vibe. And agreed that they are incredibly unoriginal guitar ideas to-boot, like they are phoned in so much they nearly sound programmed (are they programmed??)

i get that there is like, a post-rock influence to this and that might appeal to some, but man like... the combination of post-rock and downtempo is just so awful to me (*cough* Tycho *cough*)

The electric guitar parts sound insincere to me. Like they cheapen the overall atmosphere.
