Still, when I saw Opeth perform Bleak live, Mikael did the clean vocals very, very well.

Yeah thats definitely true. The only problem I had with Bleak live tbh is that it didn't have the same 8-guitar attack you have on the record.

I never saw these guys live. How were they? Is it worth it?

Oops, my mistake, thanks for pointing it out. I misremembered that bit.

Just a question I would like to bring up: does anyone feel that the acoustic passages on this album could've been better? Oh sure, they serve their purpose as haunting and sometimes tense segways between death metal passages wonderfully. But, as is the case often, keys that sound punishing and sinister in distorted electric guitar often sound disjointed and weak in either clean or acoustic guitar. Does anyone else share this sentiment?

Off topic, but Dirge For November rules. Sometimes simplistic death chugging with double bass backing can sound perfect. If it weren't surrounded by much more complex songs it would be bad, but it sounds excellent as it is.

^Maybe that's my problem Brain Dead. This didn't pack any sort of punch like other Opeth albums did. It's still excellent, but I can't see this being more than a 4-4.5 for me. They seem more in their element elsewhere. This Message Edited On 03.29.07

I'm not saying you don't know what you're talking about, but didn't you just get into these guys? I've heard this takes time to grow, but I dunno. This Message Edited On 03.29.07

I'm not saying I know anything about these guys, but that doesn't mean I can't tell when I like one band's album over another. What does me just getting into them have anything to do with anything?
'This didn't pack any sort of punch like other Opeth albums did.'
Right, so, I didn't latch onto this like I did Still Life or Ghost Reveries because it lacked a punch that I found more prominent and more interesting for me. I didn't say I was right. ('Maybe that's my problem Brain Dead.' 'They seem more in their element elsewhere.')

oh and shut up chan and say something nice for once

I've already stated that I've heard several opinions on where this album grows on people, and it's accessability is rather limited as compared to the likes of Ghost Reveries and Still Life. I'm only going on what other people have said, but it's only been like a week since you got this album, right?

Still, having heard the album, you probably know better than I do.

All that I know is that this is my favorite Opeth album.

So time will tell if it grows on me or not. All I said was it lacked a punch and probably wouldn't get higher than this already high grade. I'll come back to this if there comes a day when it does become better for me. You stated your case better than Chan did though so thanks for at least justifying your answer.

Leper Affinity and Blackwater Park(song) really grew on me. They are both awsome songs, but a bit too long. I never though I could hear a 10-12 minute song and not be bored, not want to skip it, and like it; then this two came along and impressed me. I still generaly dislike songs over 6 minutes, but this songs opened my mind and now there are some other 7-9 minutes songs that I enjoy. This Message Edited On 04.13.07

Blackwater Park is a little too long, but The Leper Affinity is just right.
