MYT - Freshest, most exciting
CODY - Best atmosphere and depth.
Mr Beast - Most underrated probably their most ‘complete’ album
Happy Songs for Happy People - The bands best album.

Weirdly that’s very close to a most likely to least likely ranking tect, but would swap the last two. I can’t see me bumping another Natty album...
not saying that was intentional by the way, just an amusing coincidence.

bump a natty lite instead

Young Team isn't bad but I always felt I had to sort of... strain myself in order to enjoy it, I suppose? Like I had to really concentrate and mull over the music to feel it on any kind of gut level ig, felt kinda like homework for some reason
By contrast, this one I've found myself returning to almost on accident. It feels like one of those albums that just decides one day that it's a part of your life without giving you much say in the matter

bump Sister, maybe Laughing Stock, defs Souvlaki, maybe The Soft Bulletin, obviously Remain in Light, mayyybe Trouble Will Find Me
and yeah I feel that big time re. this. Young Team is like "ugh ok I know what's goin on here do I wanna do it again" and this is like "wow how did I get to the end so fast did I want this?"
but the woke take is just to spin Chocky on repeat forever

Ex-cowboy into chocky into Xmas steps is what seals the deal for me here tbh, if it had been like the first half the whole way through I think it would have started dragging pretty badly

Boy are you right about this album finishing strong. I'm only now getting into Mogwai and between this and Young Team, it really seems like they leave the best for last.

I feel like this album is part of me now, it’s such a seamless experience - I don’t want to say ATMOSPHERE but yeah that
Quarterly/6 month (+?) reminder that this is their peak, which I only actually decided over lockdown, yet will now become a regular thing

There’s nothing else quite like it.
‘Post-Rock’ is a trudge, this trudges but there is such an underlying sense of something else going on from the amazing Iggy Pop spiel, to the American Footy commentary, through to the detachment of May Nothing But Happiness Come Through Your Door all leading up to them last three tunes and rounded off by yet more odd mangled spiel.
It’s grounded, gritty and ‘real’ something which so much of the ilk fails to be.
Added to that it has one of the greatest front covers of all time.
It’s an absolute classic record which is an all time fave and demands a listen from start to finish.
