oh man no way. SCBD2 is incredible, You Can't Imagine has much better beats and while the lyrics are pretty surface-level (much like here) they're at least still personal and delivered with passion.
Slug just sounds bored and uninspired on this album. First, his rhyme schemes are simplistic at best (c'mon, rhyming "part meant" with "apartment"?) and there's just not a lot of clever stuff happening (The Skinny and Yesterday aside).
he's telling stories here, but I'm not exactly sure what the point of most of them are. I mean, there's that song about the single mother with a dead beat dad, but that's all there is to it. On older albums he'd tell a story (think Song About a Friend, Woman With the Tattooed Hands, God's Bathroom Floor, The River, etc.) and it would be deeper than the narrative itself. That doesn't happen at all on this album.
a lot of it just sounds like adult contemporary hip hop to me. with all that being said, I don't dislike this album really. I just like it less than most of the other stuff Atmosphere's released.

I would probably rank them like this:
God Loves Ugly
Lucy Ford
Overcast!
Sad Clown Bad Dub II
Seven's Travels
You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having
Headshots: Se7en
When Life Gives You Lemons
The Family Sign
SCBD VII is also awesome, though I guess not really an actual album.

Explode, if you liked this album then yes definitely explore their entire discog, as Blake said this is actually towards the bottom, even though I think its great.
Do not ever, fucking ever get the new one though. Its an abomination.

That was pretty clear on the artist page, I think it has a 3.1 or something.....
Someone should make a hip-hop for honkeys list, I could get behind that...

I'm all old school with a few nice selections over the past few years...all of which you gentlemen seem to enjoy as well.
Think Low End or Paul's Boutique were the first hip hop albums I loved

if you only get 5, get
You Cant Imagine
GodlovesUgly
Lucy Ford
Sevens Travels
Overcast
all phenominal albums. You Cant Imagine and GLU are the most consistently strong, Sevens has some of their best songs but also some filler, Lucy Ford is the bomb, Overcast is overcast

Also as Blake said Sad Clown Bad Dub II is great but probably harder to find unless you do an entire torent discog.

yeah you really can't go wrong with any of the 5 Hans listed (plus SCBD2). really, SCBD7 is important mainly for God's Bathroom Floor, as that's pretty much the greatest song of all time. Ever.

I've been jamming so much atmosphere this summer...time to retire them for next year. Just can't listen to Slug in the winter (certain songs excluded from that statement such as If I was Santa Claus and Became, Vampires etc)
