If what I've heard at the beginnings of each track is what I'm going to hear through the whole track, I don't even want to hear the rest of the album completely. I've been an avid fan of TMV since deloused came out, and was disappointed when I saw the direction they were going after Amputechture came out. Perhaps I've not given this album too much of a chance, but I didn't like what I've heard. I've skimmed through the beginnings of each track, and all I hear are gimmicky effects.

Now I haven't listened to all of this yet but I find the drummer's playing in Ilyena to be disgustingly over the top, to the point it's just annoying. I like everything else about the song, but the drums just bother me so much...I can barely listen to it. I highly disagree with that fact that they fit the song. The way I see it the guy's just completely high on himself and showing off to the point where it's tasteless and stupid.
I dunno that's just me...I still gotta listen to the rest of the album though.

Yea i think pridgen is the highlight of the song. Maybe he's just too good for your brain to handle.

Nah, it's not that. I mean I appreciate the fact that the guy has chops. He won the Guitar Center Drum off at age 9 I think...graduated from Berkley college of music at an astoundingly young age.
Here's a comparison: Danny Carey practically takes a drum solo at the end of The Grudge, but it completely fits the music and simply supports everything else in the song. It seems that during Ilyena instead of trying to support the music Pridgen is attempting to become the main focus of it...and the end result just sounds sloppy to me. I'm not saying he's a bad drummer, he's just gotta relax and tone down on his playing.

yeah, because they never used to use stupid vocal effects

Pridgen is a sick fucking drummer, maybe even better than Theodore. He's definitely got more bombast at the very least.

Pridgen fits the new sound because it's much more, hectic, crazy, and intense. If he would have been on the older albums and played in this matter it probably would have been bad because their other albums had a lot of songs that didn't require drum craziness.
This album, however, it really goes well with the music. I do think however that he tends to over-play during slower parts but since those are few and far between on this album it's not so unforgivable.

article in issue of Relix says Omar's already got the next two Volta albums written and the next one is going to be a mellow effort that they are refering to as acoustic...it may not be released on a major label...don't have the article or i'd post a news item...
about Bedlam, however, it's still fantastic...Soothsayer doesn't get enough love and is one of my personal favorite tracks.

Goliath is soooooooooooooooooooooo good. I can't get enough of this album. And the lyrics make the most sense out of pretty much any TMV album, which is a plus.
...I think I'm starting to feel a miscarriage coming on.

Yeah i know. I personally love the lyrics. Cedric has stated that he took some lyrics from the oujia board because "It wrote better lyrics than I (Cedric) ever could).
I wish someone would fumigate my mental hygene...
