And Oli's a much better vocalist than Tomas.

you've got to be joking. At the Gates is a band better in every single aspect than BMTH, there is no way you can compare them. Especially because you're only comparing it to Slaughter of the Soul, all their earlier stuff has no relevance to BMTH. And Tomas' voice is unique, the guy from BMTH sounds like the vocalist from every other generic band out there.

Also, good review, but I disagree with the rating.

This band gets too much crap. There are way worse bands out there.

Tomas' scream is not that good, his voice breaks constantly and you can hear it. Oli's scream has a hell of a lot more support to it, and his highs are in a feminine range, as I've stated before. He's also a lot more varied.

First off, I just have to say that you, SylentEcho or whatever the hell, are a moron. You can't sit there and make blunt asshole-ish statements like "BMTH sucks and if you like them you obviously know nothing about music. Listen to good metal." and then say something like "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion." That is what we call hypocrisy. Not to mention being a douchebag for no good reason. If you don't like BMTH, fine. But you don't have to insult people that do. It's not a personal thing or whatnot. I'm not gonna sit here and tell you to like a band because I do. To each his own. But if you truly believe everyone should be able to express their opinion equally, then let them. Don't insult them if they disagree with you about something.

And that goes for everyone else who's said any blunt statements or personal attacks towards someone who actually likes this band.

And yes, i am the robots, BMTH sounds a lot like At The Gates and several other bands of the genre. But oh, wait. They have long hair and slightly "immature" lyrics. Plus OMGZ BREAKDOWNS SUXXORS!

Lame arguments.

Agreed. These kids need to stop arguing using bands that everybody who just got into the genre listens to as arguments for what "good metal" is.

Kiddies need to listen to Intestine Baalism or GTFO.

That's just the sort of comment that really shows how your arrogant dribble lacks any credibility whatsoever. You seem to think that everything you listen to is 'right', and you alone hold the knowledge of what good metal is and what isn't. Seriously, it's getting annoying.
That out of the way, you're right, Tomas' voice does break sometimes, but there's just something about the rawness in his voice that I really like. BMTH's vocalist isn't bad, by all means he's a good vocalist, but I don't prefer him over Tomas or most other bands. It's the music that BMTH makes that stops me from listening to them, not the vocals (I find it uninteresting).

1. Basically every metal musician has long hair. Totally pointless comment.
2. Yes, breakdowns suck when they're put into every single song, and they sound exactly the same. I like breakdowns, I think they sound good, and that they really incite things in a mosh pit, but when they are re-used over and over again, I really don't want to listen to them. But that is all my own opinion.
PS. robots: I saw The Black Dahlia Murder live the other night. It was a very good show, and I've finally understood how they are not metalcore :PThis Message Edited On 11.09.07This Message Edited On 11.09.07

No seriously, he isn't. His scream sounds kind of cool, but Oli's technique is much better. Oli's sense of tone is a lot more apparent, and he also has a much more control over his voice, as you can tell by how many different types of scream he's capable of without blowing his voice.

No, like that's not my opinion. It's actually a fact that Oli's technique is better and that he has a lot more control over his voice, if you know anything about screaming you'll understand what I'm saying. This Message Edited On 11.09.07

That's just ridiculous. None of that implies that Oli is a better vocalist and that we should like him better. There is no way I will ever choose BMTH over At the Gates, not in any aspect whatsoever. That includes vocals. Do you know why? Because I like Tomas' vocals better, even if your supposed knowledge of screaming suggests that Oli is more dynamic. You can never win against opinion, especially when what you claim to be fact is just really your own opinion.

SylentEcho: I heard about it, but I doubt us Australians will get any chance to see them :P sucks to be me.

Once again nobody gives a fuck about technique. Dream Theater have the best technique for their respective instruments and such but that doesn't make them suck any less at creating any emotion in their music.

His technique is more proper, whether or not it's better is subjective because obviously alot of people don't think it sounds great, and having "good" technique has nothing to do with the quality of someone's vocals.

Mike Patton is a good example of someone who has a pretty advanced technique (not just with harsh vocals but with all sorts of shit) but still sounds totally gay.

exactly, it's all a matter of opinon.
Just because I make pancakes more efficiently than Josh D. doesn't necessarily make my pancakes better. He might take a lot longer to make his, he might make the entire kitchen messy, he might even break a few pans, but his pancakes could very easily taste a whole lot better than mine.
I hope that analogy was relevant :S
