No man, I’ll have to check out Pinfield. But Clarity is a 5 out of 5 for me. But like you said it’s a bit more varied and Jimmy evolved to adopt different sounds later on. So I don’t really think of them as a prototypical “emo” band, even though I know they’re considered one.

Lonely Estate is another quintessential emo band in my mind. Never could really get into American Football. I like Sunny Day but find that their albums are a bit hit and miss for me — incredible high points, but then some filler songs too. The Hotelier Home is phenomenal, still need to check out their 2nd album. Still need to check Braid, The Promise Ring, Texas is the Reason etc.

What else would you recommend, as far as the greats go?I may have heard some of them but I’m definitely open to recommendations. I’ve listened to a few TWIABP albums (first two) and really like them but still need to check out their 3rd and 4th albums.

penfold is great man, you would love it if you dig this. sounds very similar with textbook great use of quiet loud dynamics. "i'll take you everywhere" might be my favorite song ever. i'll give you 5 essentials from the 90s. hard to leave off some but these are quintessential emo albums that pop into my mind right away.

penfold- amateurs and professionals

christie front drive- stereo

pop unknown- if arsenic fails, try algebra

texas is the reason- do you know who you are?

the appleseed cast- mare vitalis

this is probably my favorite genre so i'm really interested in your thoughts when you listen so let me know!

Nice I will check them all out then, thanks man! Forgot about Christie Front Drive too, bought their album years ago but never got to it.TITR as well. I’ve heard of Appleseed cast but never listened.

Listening to Penfold now (June) and it’s a very similar sound to Mineral for sure. So of course I’m looking it so far.

But I’ll let you know as I listen to these, thanks man!

awesome man! appleseed cast you will really dig i think because of the post-rock influence. and penfolds second is a quality album just a bit more slow. very beautiful but lacks the explosions.

That sounds right up my alley, Appleseed. I’ve heard about them many times over the years and read about them here, time to finally check them out.

For sure man, I’m definitely gonna go through the entire discography. The OCD side in me HAS to lol. As you can tell bubs, I have quite the queue to plow through. Still on TBS (happiness is), last few albums just weren’t as good so I figured I’d step out for a break and return.

Listened to Anberlin’s second album and really liked it. Been revising some mineral and 1st hotelier.

If I Could is definitely one of the best. Parking Lot, Gloria, Slower.

The vocals hold this back a tad for me, but there's some great songwriting here. Gloria kicks so much ass.

Agreed, the vocals are part of the appeal! The raw emotion and passion indeed, and that’s what I expect great emo to have, or whatever label you want to put on them. I admit the vocals are an acquired taste but it didn’t take me long to warm up to them.
