Album Rating: 4.0

Whyyyyy?????

I feel like it's hard to rate anything that isn't metal.
Generally, I don't really like rating music. It kind of sucks the passion out of it.
I have good reasons for not rating non-metal music, but it's hard for me to put into words. Lol

whatever floats your boat

It's kind of along these lines: Metal is a music that generally takes a degree of technical skill to play. That's something I can objectively rate.
But how am I supposed to rate a punk rock album? It's just power chords and passion, and I don't feel good about sticking a number on that. It's something that I think can't be judged.

i think most people rate albums based on how much they enjoy them, not how marvelously technical they are

I get what you mean, but I tend to rate based on how much I can connect to an album, but a lot of thought does go into that process, believe it or not.
|
| |
i rate based on enjoyment, i also try to write a soundoff with each rating usually

Idk actually. I rate based on enjoyment a lot too. Also how many original ideas an album has, whether or not it's genuine, its level of passion. I guess I rate based on a lot of things.
|
| |
i don't want to list them tbh, but it's mostly based off how solid the whole thing is
|
| |
Agreed, death. How much I enjoy the album and how original I think it is is what I base a rating on.
|
| |
emotion and atmosphere also really play into it
|
| |
True.

I like to imagine that the people commenting are actually their avatar, and Milo and Bill Nye having a conversation about the merits of rating music makes me really happy.
