my strange musical development as a child caused me to be into death and black metal at the same time I thought Slipknot were pretty cool, so the first time I heard the blastbeats on All Hope is Gone I was pretty stoked

At a certain point I stopped caring about which metal band was "ok" to like. I'm into metal because I find the genre as a whole likeable, in almost all of its twists and turns (some specific styles will never be my thing of course). Personally I want to enjoy myself with the genre. If others want to spend time with the genre worrying about which band they should and shouldn't like and what's "poser" and what isn't "poser"...that's their problem.

yea I'm not consciously concerned at all with how cool or trve a band is but I'm still wondering how much my opinions are unconsciously colored by the perception of an artist (like this) being commercial or inauthentic

Oh, I totally agree. I don't care what's cool to like or not, but it is a welcoming change to be able to talk about certain bands with metalheads without being bombarded with posts of how much of a nonmetalhead you are lol
