ah, another time Chan misinterprets my quote. On this particular record, just the way it flows and is constructed, it wouldn't be as good or as warm with one of The National's early rocking tracks, like the ones on Alligator or Sad Songs. On Alligator, the ballads worked perfectly with the rockers, but here, I think one of those more electrifying tracks would actually ruin the feel and flow of the album. Though I do love the rocking National.

@Eno, yeah possibly. Songs like Brainy and Squalor Victoria which are more upbeat but still not as heavy as songs like "Available" or "Abel", are still great and equally as gripping without sacrificing the more laxed indie approach that this has over Alligator's more hard rock nature.
