I always come back to this from time to time.
Superb first half but Rainbow kind of throws the record off a cliff, Tij is the only song from the second half that is on par with its first tracks

Rainbow is the weak track, yeah. Tij and Race : Out are great though. Especially race out.

Always a very good album, although can either feel highly innovative or somewhat annoying depending on mood.

Atlas is the only song I really listen to from these guys but I can have that on repeat for days

not a fan of every single thing they've done. This is golden, of course

What a great Math rock gem. Especially the drumming is highly addictive!!

First time jamming this, and I'm loving it so far! Really intricate and off-kilter stuff

For how much I love all the acts adjacent to Battles, I suppose its time I bumped this

Took me a while to get into this, it's almost like a twee-adjacent take off from Yes' Changes off 90125. But I keep coming back to it, and even picked up the vinyl.

losing Tyondai ruined this band

I remember when this was a big deal. Held up well last I checked but could do with another run soon. Part of a ‘last of a dying breed’ amongst my 4(+s), as most of this release era is a blur lost to time
Atlas, Tonto, Tij, Race Out etc. really great memories / album!

I was there almost 20 years ago

Yeah. I mean a decent amount of stuff has held up, but more in the sense I got into it around this mid-00s time, but the album in question came out early 00s or 90s etc.
this is one of the earlier release ‘hype trains’ I can remember

definitely if we’re talking internet rather than real life hype etc.
