That's a pretty typical dub derived bassline. Heggie probably came up with it from listening to Jah Wobble of P.I.L.

I wouldn't say it's distinct enough to accuse anyone of plagiarism really, nor the majority of basslines
(or just chord progressions :] )

That's true of course, but it was a nice parallel I thought, especially considering Liz is on that album too.

It is a cool parallel, definitely. A lot of the early trip-hop bands were fans of post-punk and stuff.
