@Em

Well that's a completely shit take on something that is derived from opinion. I didn't even say what I do/do not like about the new record, but now it's all about trying to find the flaws and bitching lol. I'm someone who finds Blood Mountain to be flawless, but I am allowed to you know, not like every second put to tape and think that maybe it's a little overdone and plodding in places to warrant a hype score. The same way The Hunter was a little too simple and basic to commit to fully, but even then people were calling it the best thing they'd done. I mean it's cool if you think so about that album, but I'm just saying this is the cycle of every Mastodon release since... at least BM.

At work, so hard to give Hushed and Grim a proper listen, but the bits I have heard so far sound pretty damned good. Will give it a more focused listen this weekend.

It's their best since CTS, but definitely has its flaws.

I love the tempo and flow of this (Hush and Grim) album. Seems way more mature and reflective than anything they've done before. Someone said it sounds like they are getting old, and I'm loving that!

EASILY their best since sky. And prob my third fav overall from them. If not second fav after sky.

Third spin revealed some inconsistencies. May lower to a 4 instead of a 4,5, but probably my 3rd fav after CtS and Leviathan. It's a long album and it's hard to analyze.

Btw, last track sounds like a Pelican song with vocals haha. The riff is actually pretty similar to 'GW' from their album Australasia

"I always think of the first three Masto albums as the classics and everything else as semi-failed experiments "

100% agree. I prefer to listen Hears alive for hours than any post Blood montain stuff.

there are moments of true greatness amongst a sea of just dead boring blandness as far as I'm concerned after my first spin of H&G, wack hype train lol
