"how do you rip off chords lmao"



by using the same chords, in the same progression as another song with a similar rhythm. it doesn't help when you very similar production in the track (like eerie string backdrops in an otherwise minimalist track)



hey don't get me wrong it's not really a "criticism" of the song, there are so many pieces of music extent that everything is going to be very similar something else, what constitutes "ripping off" though is some degree of intent I think. In this case, the song in question ("pyramid song") is so ubiquitous and popular, is by one of the most influential bands of the last two decades, and the kendrick song sounds similar in mood, production and composition. either way, i don't particularly mind when an artist makes a song that very clearly borrows from another song if A) the song its borrowing from is a song i like and B) the song doing the borrowing doesn't come across as a hollow shell of the original. How much a dollar cost meets critera A and B so i'm happy with it.
