Chicken Picking is a term I hadn’t heard before, to me it’s called Hybrid Picking. I’ve only recently started practicing it, but yeah, it helps a lot.
As much as I love Mastodon, speaking purely from a musician’s perspective Brent definitely isn’t a virtuoso and his whacky style seems to (rightfully) get plenty of credit.

Honestly I've always loved remission but considered it inferior to this and cts,... until about a year ago. The whole album is so well-executed and such a blast to listen to. Tracks like March of the fire ants, trainwreck and trilobite are easily among their best imo
