"I can see how you might look beyond the almost non-existent song-writing"
again, this is just so off. How can a person listen to Satan in the Wait, The Lords song, Ocean Song, Guest House, and say there's no songwriting? I love The Reason They Hate Me, but if every song followed the standard verse-chorus-verse-chorus format then this would be bland as fuck

^ That's such a great description.
All about the doomy, uneasy atmosphere boys.

"but I think with this return album they wanted *some* form of accessibility for the masses."
saw this record in the Pop/Rock section of my local record store. They have a huge section for metal and hardrock and alternative and put this next to Kate Nash and (the) Sweet

Not that big on Vangas doof. I avoided rating it cause it's a SB pick.

Huh, I thought it was a good ol' slice of DIY Sonic Youth and Jesus Lizard-y stuff that gets to the guts a bit more than this.
The website is where it gets disturbing, thanks for the link to that.

It's not bad, I just didn't find it to be very memorable.

Dunno, I don't find all that much that sounds like that album but then I don't specifically look for noise rock stuff like it.
I know Sandwich loves his SY so if it's good enough for him I trust
|
| |
Well it must be ideal in sound for him because he rates is higher than most SY albums, including Daydream Nation. I prefer my noise rock to be more chaotic. Stuff like BNNT and Stabscotch.

that's one huge point in quality for me: listening to it over and over again without getting bored. That's why this 5 is so fucking deserved imo

I used to think the middle of the album paled in comparison to the bookends but over time the albums quality kind of smoothed out for me

album is pretty consistent, although Guest House is my favorite by a decent margin. that song is unreal

I think I can finally admit that this is their best album

I’m gathering that this album is worth checking out — right? How about their other stuff?
|
| |
Just listened to Satan and Guest House — holy fuck, this is right up my alley. I’m a sucker for creepy shit and this fits the bill. Guest House is especially good.
