I find it incredibly engaging. The wall of sound (guitars, screams, feedback) is so dissociating and like Johnny said it perfectly captures the mental collapse that Weiss sings about. It's possibly the most interesting song they've ever composed.

I can see both sides and depending on my mood I can be on either. I do wish the vocals were mixed a little higher, but only because I feel like it would make the some more accessible- though, I believe that would be missing the point entirely as we've discussed here previously that the choices made for that specific song were likely very intentional.
It works more as a piece of sonic art than it does as a song, and that seems to be beautiful or lacking depending on how you look at it, I guess.

They have plenty of accessible songs on here though, so I'd much prefer the mixing to stay the same as it makes the song what it is.

I totally understand that, but you gotta see how it sticking out could be a negative thing to others in context of the rest of the album.

I guess, but I'd take a whole album of that experimental ambient stuff like what they give us in Michael over a whole album of Flee Thou Matadors.
Not that I have anything against the catchier stuff here, but Michael just gives me chills. Every time. And I've listened to it probably 100 times by now and that's no exaggeration.

I'd love an entire album of stuff like that as well, tbh. I'm going to miss this band so much.

I was thinking about bands hanging it up and this is the only band right now I can think that makes me sad to see them dissolve. I've been attached to them for so long. All my other favorite bands have had pretty long careers though and have given so much that it's hard not to feel good for them to get some rest. So long as they all go without controversy, I think I'll generally feel pretty okay with it.

Yeah it's so important for bands to have the closure of going out on their own terms. I think it means a lot to the fans, too. I'm sure mwY will do a few special things before closing the book - I'm personally hoping for some b-sides. But if this is the last thing they do, that's perfectly fine and I can't complain because it's basically the perfect career-ender.

then announcing their breakup a year in advance was genius because they basically have full access to my bank account at this point

Dude, I don’t want to even think about it. A Black Mile is probably my album of the decade — and not just that, but I love all their other albums (Cope, I just like, but I like a lot). Can’t wait to see what their next album is.

A new favorite song right now: Tortoises All the Way Down. "Surely as the sun, early on the east side comes, I know I'm not the only one."

I thought Tortoises was in the bottom three for me, but upon this revisit, I'm loving it.

Band sucked live tonight. Never seen them before, but Aaron was pitchy, there was no energy, a lot of the subtle guitar tones that make the albums cool didn’t translate. Plus aaron is weird and awkward on stage which I guess I should have expected. Thrice blew them out of the water unfortunately

ouch. first time I saw them they were brilliant because of how weird and energetic Aaron was.
i really wanted to see them wednesday and I'm sure Thrice was sick but ehh, hard to do things like this on weeknights unless I'm dying to go.

Thrice was great. I’ve seen them a bunch of times and were always great until I saw them open for rise against and they were meh, playing pretty much all stuff off of everywhere/nowhere. But they totally killed it with the Vheissu set list tonight

Yeah tbh I haven’t seen a mwY show that wasn’t absolutely stellar — they had a lot of problems on this tour though with sickness and stuff. Bummer you saw a bad show
