Let's clarify certain things about its production. It sounds less heavy and thinner. Facts. Vocals lose some low end of the spectrum, which results in them sounding thinner aswell. Now the music shifted towards prog a lot when compared to their previous efforts. I think it fits the music well but I can understand why people may dislike the production work here, it's an acquired taste for sure.

That description makes me think I might need some time to warm up to it. Although I enjoy my folk "thin" and bare-bones, for whatever reason I tend to dislike metal produced the same way. It might just be because I'm only a fringe fan of the genre to begin with, but I always prefer things beefed up and epic. Hopefully this new LP at least avoids the "tin can" effect.

the production is not a problem at all and the thin sound some describe isn't really a factor for me idk

I feel like the middle portion of the new album is gonna take a while to dissect, really subtle and nuanced so I keep going back for more lol.

Dig the new album a lot, Mastodon always hovers around a 4 for me one of the most consistent bands out there...but, jeez that snare has no body to it at all. The mix has a great balance but with how constant Brann is on his snare fills it doesn't make much of an impact.
