I agree with Lucca that the album is really really hurt by how shit Lars is and the upfrontness of the drums in the mix, swap the drums and the guitars round in how prominent they are in the mix and it instantly gets up into the 4ish range, but would still be a fair ways away from Master Of Puppets (which gets a 5 mostly because of nostalgia reasons as my first Metallica album) and Ride the Lightning, which is god tier album.

It honestly makes the album tiring to listen too, combined with their obsession of keeping songs going on and on forever and ever and ever makes it hard to listen through and then want to come back to it.

Tbh the bass is almost too heavy, wish they took it out or something.

@Bigpapa - agreed dude, this whole album is just one annoying bass solo

@groundking- Tbh Shortest Straw is the one song on this album where it really gets to me - it's just so fucking repetitious, that's the one weak link on this album imo.

Yeah thats usually when I give up listening to the album and just go back to spinning RTL or MOP, usually RTL.

Speaking of which, I'm really looking forward to that remastered Master of Puppets.

Yeah I'm really excited for that, it's why I'm holding off on listening to it again even though I'm seeing them next month in Manchester and haven't listened to the album for ages. I'm REALLY REALLY hoping they debut Spit out the Bone for it, still can't believe they've yet to play the best song of the new album live.

Duuuuuudeee Spit Out The Bone is one of the best songs they've written in decades. Let me know if they play that

Yeah Spit Out the Bone rules so hard, truly baffles me that they've yet to play it.

@TundraL5Z dude Shortest Straw is painful to listen too, thought it's probably not helped by the fact it's preceded by One, which I detest, mostly because it and Enter Sandman are the only Metallica songs Kerrang ever used to play when I was a kid and watched the channel for hours and hours on end.

"Back when the name "Metallica" actually meant something to the metal community"

That was one hell of a pretentious way to begin my review of this. lol
