They're not full out black metal at all, just more bm than dm and almost all screaming/shrieking vocals, but I don't hear a lot of prog or rock in the music. MR probably has their best acoustic guitar stuff though tbh

Really? Will check that out soon then. I'm going to try and get through their discog before PC is released.

Mikael should do a folky acoustic album of some sorts

Why do all gothic, bm, folk bands compose a 20 minute epic once in their discog? Is it a trend? Opeth have Black Rose Immortal, Estatic Fear have Somnium Obmutum, Draconian have Death Come Near me... Some examples that come to mind.

I suppose they just want to see if they can and create something of that stature

the next single will probably be Eternal Rains Will Come. Once it's already leaked, they are going to release it officially. I don't think Mikael will release another song already. Two are enough. In other words, no need to wait for the next single.

Well, Eternal Rains has actually leaked dude, but I think it disappeared after like three days. You might find it on Vimeo. It was fucking good, way better than Cusp

S'alright. Nothing too special, but a sign of the awesome things to come

Well that's true, but I didn't think that would have been that hard

This has a few greats like Folklore, Haxprocess, and I Feel The Dark. That instrumental ain't shabby either. Eternal Rains is probably as good as they are and I like how melodic it is

Well, I would say it's as good as The Devil's Orchard. Folklore, Haxprocess and I Feel the Dark are really hard to beat among Opeth's material. Heritage is so underrated, but anyways, even though the new album will probably be a hard 4 or 4.5, I doubt it will be better than this. My opinion at least

quite a handful of people here like Heritage... Just don't ask the die hard metal elitists

Not a hard die metal elitist but this is one of the blandest efforts of opeth, is still good but is

not at the same level of their other stuff. You have damnation which is a remarkable opeth's effort

and is softer than their extreme metal efforts.

I wish that Damnation or this was in vein of the folky acoustic sections within the heavier songs, but instead they're just variations of prog rock that don't really do anything special

This album is pretty folky, though not as much as storm corrosion

Not my kind of preferred folk. Ideally, a bit like the title track from Storm Corrosion or Coil

Best thing akerfeldt or Wilson have done in 5+ years. Id probably be just as excited for a new SC as I am for new 'Peth
