Just Pika baiting with his terrible opinion as usual, nothing to see here.

Hopefully he actually explains his opinion 'cause I'd really like to know how one could consider Tool nu metal lol

You can simplify a lot of bands and make them sound boring by doing that, that’s why I was hoping for some more detail
|
| |
And yea Tool has always been closer to grunge imo, like an evolution of stuff like Soundgarden

He's wrong but I can see his argument, Tool did get classified as nu-metal/alt metal in the past. Nu-metal is one of those genres that almost any band got classified as during the late 90s even though they were wildly different. SOAD, Deftones, Linkin Park, and Mudvayne are in the same genre? Yeah, okay...

Even then a genre descriptor shouldn’t influence your opinion on a band. If Tool is nu metal then they’re probably one of the best nu metal bands ever

SOAD and Deftones actually write memorable songs, not some build-up bs over samey repetitive riffs.
I don't mind meditative music when it hits hard/lifts you up at all the right moments, but neither Lateralus nor this album accomplish it. They both meander incessantly without ever reaching that explosive point that justifies the preceding chord progressions in a plausible way. And don't gimme that "these albums are meant to be an experience" bs, not buying it.
I still haven't heard 10k days, so perhaps that will change my opinion.

Ya but Deftones songs are undeniably more concise.
I dig this album but Pika definitely has a point

4 minute songs are undeniably more concise than 12 minute songs? You don't say!

As impressive as it is that a band like Tool could overtake Taylor Swift on the charts, it also took THIRTEEN years of hype to get it done. :O
Yeah, but 10k Days topped the charts with enormous first week sales as well.
|
| |
yeah the choice of the word concise was a pretty poor one

You need a superior memory to remember a Tool song

Thanks valek! I love Invincible too. T/t has been growing on me as well.
People describing any Tool album, especially any of their music released after Undertow, as nu-metal is pretty baffling to me. Now, alternative metal (whatever that means) I guess is fair for their '90s albums.

I've never considered them any kind of metal.
