I think all those 3.5 songs are amazing, just in a way that's a different from what The National usually does. Only not really. Fireproof is kinda like Val Jester. Slipped is like a really sexy lounge act that gets pretty much all its power from its melody. And I love how the verses are completely different but lead into the chorus the same way. Heavenfaced is just fucking beautiful. Reminds me of the Cure kinda. And Hard to Find is just so careful that it kinda come off as boring at first. Sounds keep getting added, but they're so small and twinkly it's hard to notice them. But man, once it clicked it became a perfect closer
