the sheer raw energy they gave to their live performances touring for Meteora alone cannot be beaten by their releases afterwards. Meteora in itself is an absolute gem of an album and you could tell they felt the same way when you saw their shows.
this album could not come close to that, but I'll be damned, this album separated me from my friends when it came to how much I loved this band.

i wonder how many of the rating bombs on this are from miffed fans who wanted nu metal and how many are from pseuds that hate every rock band that has ever appeared on the radio in an attempt to establish a persona
these are the mysteries.....

Break this down. 15 tracks. 6 of them are the opener/interludes (And of those only 1 is good/necessary being the opener). 9 songs. 2(WFTE and TC) are great. 1(W&K) is just good. 3(BIIS, WTCFM, Iri) are ok. 2(RB and TM) are bad. and 1(Blackout) is awful and is arguably LPs worst song.

i understand subjective taste and all that but sometimes people have sentiments so far removed from reality i think there must be an actual flaw with their sensory experience
like being colorblind but for sound, rather than arguing favorite (proverbial) colors
that final take about blackout is one of them

there are good sounds and bad sounds
this album? good sounds, mostly
i can definitely understand subjectively calling them average sounds if you aren't trained to listen for them, or aren't vibing with them emotionally on your initial first impression spin of the record
but i can't understand someone saying blackout sounds bad, unless they have bizarro ears, or are factoring in elements other than the music itself, like the mere /idea/ of a """dubstep"""-esque breakdown is enough to send them into convulsions pre-emptively because they're supposed to hate dubstep

I get hugely smug watching more and more people get on the ATS train every year knowing that I was touting its greatness back in 2010. It was ahead of its time sonically in the way it brought such unfamiliar textures and production to pop music.

Wretches and Kings with subs and tweeters in your car gives off a kinda "I fuck around" vibe when all you hear is trap in the streets
