elliott smith was a genius at creating the most exciting harmonies and melodies though. just feels
like if the song never really progresses or evolves in terms of tempo, mood, whatever, it's missing
something.

this is something you hear a lot with artists who are kinda bubbling under true success. they clearly understand how to construct a song and it all sounds very competent and professional but it lacks that spark. it's frustrating
then again, I haven't heard the whole album yet

I want to write about the crazy themes going on that I never picked up on before, like the backwards messages in 'In a Jar' and the biblical apocalypse references floating around. Just not sure whether to do it in review or blog form. Blog might actually be easier because then I won't feel obligated to cover things about the music that everyone already knows.
