Yeah that tapping riff is fucking immaculate. All the years have seen a brilliant evolution in Kurt's guitar playing. Also, I agree that the t/t gets a little too repetitive, but it's still awesome. And In Her Shadow is an amazing track too. Honestly, like 9 tracks on this album are unfuckwithable for me.

Last Light is just one of those songs that speaks to me, Converge have a knack for that. Beneath the density, the angry pterodactyl vocals and the technical mastery there's a beating heart and that's what sets them apart from the majority of their peers.

I mean, even the pterodactyl vocals are a pivotal draw for me. I'm a firm proponent that Jake has one of, if not the most harsh deliveries in all of heavy music. Yeah, Last Light is just beautiful, musically and lyrically.

I agree with Evokaphile in the main, I mean the atmosphere is dark & kind of cool but it doesn't have the intensity of Converge's other records, specifically Jane Doe/No Heroes etc. And I love Axe to Fall which has great balance (chaotic/dark, slow build) between the two Converge archetypes.

You gonna listen to Death King, Black Cloud, & Eagles and tell me those aren't brutal? I love Axe to Fall, too. T/t on that is one of Converge's best songs period.

I was honestly surprised at the quality of AWLWLB after the two before it. Not that they suck or anything.

Axe to Fall is close to it in my opinion. Im still struggling with no Heroes, its good and its more complex in some ways to their other stuff, but aspects of it just dont click with me

That's how I feel about both of those albums. There are some really great tracks on each though.

I recommend you give Axe another go because that's some classic stuff right there man. It's almost perfect. And I love how fucking hyperactive and spastic it is while still managing to be simple and memorable in its structure.

Most of Converge's recent work is flawless, only complaint here is that I wish they would embrace the math elements a little more rather than embrace the Entombed-worship so much. Still love every album and I hope they get a new one out eventually.

Kurt has critiqued their earlier material (mostly pre-jane) as "needlessly complex" so it's unlikely we'll get songs that are riff-piles again. Notice how most of their stuff is verse-chorus-verse or A-A-B structure, or derivatives thereof, on their latest albums
