>clears the servicable shoegaze bar
>services my gaze need
if you rly consider these equivalent, that's a tua culpa for sloppy phrasing, and before you start putting any further words in my mouth and high horsing about lines of text, maybe read the review this thread is attached to and note that the bulk of criticism falls on this for being humdrum within the gaze/post rock tropes it handily falls into rather than gatekeeping it from either genre. the last couple of pages of this thread should make it evident enough that i don't hate this within the context of the band's discography
and all i can conclude beyond that is that it takes little more than the bare minimum to scratch your gaze itch, and that we would all have been better off if you had fessed as such to begin wjth

It's not sloppy phrasing, it's charitability. You're very intent on this album not being worthy of being bestowed a shoegaze moniker--or anything other than landfill fodder for that matter, so I'm relenting to say that well, *for me*, this at times does merit gaze acknowledgement, and if couching that fact in preference rather than definition helps you accept it, there you have it.

there's no point in grandstanding about the review if I have your post-review commentary to glean from. You think this is landfill indie, and that seemingly the majority of their body of work serves as little more than captivating a "blockbuster audience". I think that's as surface-level a categorization as you claim the music to be.

But hey it's all good, man. I mean who cares at the end of the day, you know? I like this album and I like that sometimes it's got the dang gaze, baby.

I'm going to ignore all the negativity I rekindled by bumping this thread and go listen to this from front to back, enjoying the amazing lyrics and atmosphere. Too bad the visuals that used to play with the songs on spotify have disappeared.

I love this bitch

pretending this isn't shoegaze, which enjoys obvious overlap with both blockbuster appeal and landfill trash, is an absurd conceit, and certainly not one i've upheld at any point (as should have been obvious from my last comment to anyone with a charitable standard of reading comp). if you like it, good for you, but whatever over-defensive clutch you're doubling down on is not something i have time for atp

if you don't gaze at your shoes, is it truly shoegaze

The tasteful screams sprinkled thoughout the songs here are one of my favourite things about this... they hit harder knowing that the singer is capable of really letting loose, but he holds back.

god bless.

Anyhoo, here's hoping they add in blur/great mass into the setlist next time around. George's rip into the tail end of great mass when they do it live aaaaaabsolutely destroys me.

Translation: John didn't have time for it because he got thoroughly rinsed. What else is new.
