One of my favorite Weiss lines. I add it to the pile of the million others. But it's still special somehow.

Alright so after spending some time (with more to follow) with these dudes, heres my ranking/ratings for their lps:
1. Brother, Sister (5) - I get the appeal, yet after each listen, I feel like I havent gotten all of the appeal yet, which will come with more time, if ever. Nick Butler said it best in his write up for the staff decade list for the 2000s (read if you havent).
2. Untitled (4.8) - If this is a goodbye, this album is the band saying it to your face in all their naked, evolved glory.
3. Catch For Us The Foxes (4.5) - A-B Life with actual depth and good songwriting (sorry). Less anger in Aaron goes a long way honestly. Here the band became mewithoutYou, and what all that has come to mean.
4. Pale Horses (4.3) - Essentially untitled without confidence, but in that description is its own unique strength. A sizable step up from Ten Stories with a more solid purpose and properly conveyed emotion.
5. Ten Stories (3.7) - I like a lot of this, but the lows go low and the album is lopsided and incohesive as a general work.
6. It's All Crazy (3) - A few songs are good, but this hardly feels like a mwY record a lot of the time. Not sure how this came after Brother, Sister.
7. A-B Life (2.5) - If I wanted to listen an album like this, I would do so by a band that has a career of doing it better. This is okay, but it's largely trite emo angst. I can fully understand why Aaron has stated that he doesn't like this album.

I actually really like A-B Life, I have the most trouble getting into It's All Crazy and Pale Horses tbh :/
|
| |
Agreed on A to B largely, it has a lot of moments I can get into hard but others that sound very ropey. Pale Horses is to Untitled what Catch For Us is to A to B imo

Nice, love your thoughts. I never really listen to AB anymore but I definitely don't hate it -- I'm one of those fans that love It's All Crazy but I don't really feel the need to compare it to their other works at all. Ten Stories means a lot personally to me so I rate it higher, but all of your other notes are on point to me.
I just love that after eleven or twelve years of listening to these guys I'm still digging up new things

Man, A-->B Life is one of my favorites. The one I don't get all the love for is CFUTF. And I know that's heresy.

I thought Catch For Us had a lot of bangers at first, but it took me the longest I think out of all of theirs (maybe a similar experience with PH) to appreciate all of it.

| |
Yeah, that album is about 33% bangers 66% existential bleakness, and one of those elements takes a lot more getting into than the other

The only two I wouldn't consider in the running are AB and Crazy, but plenty of people adore those so your statement is def true

Album Rating: 3.8
agreed and to prove that point here I am to argue Ten Stories is their best
