Australia is actually not much more expensive than Germany in terms of food. It pretty much scales from what I've heard of friends who went there.
Yeah, I'd probably look for going in the fall or winter. I don't particularly like the super extreme heat. Although I mind it less when I'm around the sea. But yeah, gonna take some time anyway as even paying 1k for a flight is still quite a bit.

Hmm that's interesting. My experience is that the price of living is much cheaper in Germany. Though maybe that's because my price of living revolves around hard spirits and beer hahahahaahahah
Australia is like anywhere, winter is fine but quintessential Australian culture and i don't know general enjoyment of the place revolves around the long summer. It's not like Germany where you have Weihnachtsmarkts and proper snow and Silvester. My German friends all said they'd preferred to go in the warmer months because we have swimming pools and beaches and air conditioning and pleasant nights in between.
And yeah 1k for a flight is an absolute fuckload, there are many cheaper places to visit.

It probably is in absolute terms but that is mostly due to the fact that lodging is likely cheaper. Last I compared the price of food at the exchange rate that time it equals out pretty nicely. Obviously it also depends on what kind of shit you buy but if you get some cheap but solid meat, cheese and bread and shit like that you don't pay a ton of money. But I already consume around 200€/month in groceries, most of which is just food. Some of which is beer (which is ridiculously cheap here, traditional beer at least) and the least of which is detergent and shit because that usually lasts me a few months.
That sounds good too but I don't care in which season I come as long as it's cheaper for me to do it then and I have sufficient time.

Yes beer is incredibly cheap in wurstchenland, it's one of my main motivations for coming back. Because it's not just cheap, it's good.

You'll likely be able to find me in Hamburg after next year. Which should be an easy point to get to in DE. (honestly not a big fan of Bavaria, way too conservative with cops and a judges that remind you of the U.S. - best thing is their beer but I can get that up here, too)

I'm just here to brag bout Melbourne imo. That's all we do here, hate on Sydney and talk about Melbourne whilst drinking our hipster coffee and wearing flannel.
