Unless you're a pop diva being promoted by a major label, the modern music scene, particularly the non-mainstream scene, is a meritocracy. Everyone has equal access to the internet and promotion of their music. If you're good (like Keshav Dhar) you get noticed. Periphery built up a reputation almost completely independently which means that they, in fact, are better than most.

No. So much wrong with this. The only meritocratic part is the bands' skills in self-publicity (which often boils down to hard cash)

Sitar, look, I'm sure you have people in your life who love you, and I'm sure you're pretty great person in real life, but I frankly don't care about Periphery's obscure place in history and you're kinda sucking at this.
I'm sure they have a cult following at best, a cult of ex-Jews, freethinking skeptics with internet access and fantasy / japanese novel buffs. But all are entitled to their opinion.

"Actually, I think that when a band sucks, that they aren't better than anybody else, but more of a fruitless waste of time."
Actually, when you think a band sucks it means you only think a band sucks, and that thinking may not be your strong suit.
Funny how that works.

Periphery built a reputation because they are part of a growing scene
They're pretty talented as musicians yeah, but in order to gain fame what you really need is to be at the correct place at the right time

You'll dig bro, if you want I'll write another fake tribute album (can you remember my Periphery EP?) dedicated to Seath's tail or some shit

So I'm not entitled to my own opinion anymore? Sitar, I believe you're bein' kind of a dick.

Opinions are 19th century romantic bullshit

Musical success is a meritocracy and my opinion is objective.

Can't be Artorias coz he's the only character in the game with an obvious storyline, can't be Tarkus coz he does shit all. It could be Beatrice though

Killerhit, you're engaging in a rather fruitless argument on a Periphery comment thread. You say you don't care about their obscure place in history, yet your apparently criticism of them contradicts that statement. Just saying...
Johnnydeking, the Djent scene has been characterised by the DIY ethic. Almost all these bands started off as bedroom projects with guys using Macs and LogicPro to record songs and post it online. Those tools are available to practically everyone. Don't tell me that bands like Chimp Spanner, Hydrodjent/Skyharbor et al. have become heavyweights because of "hard cash" because that's just not true.
