Lets start a band that dresses in all black and corpse paint but the music is actually upbeat and warm J-pop.

Yeah it’s true there’s nothing outrageously bad here but it could fucking cure insomnia, that’s worse tbh, I can have fun with a bad band. It’s just disappointing when it’s a good band

turning your nose up at music that could cure insomnia is your choice and your loss

Let's be real here, though: this album had to exist to make LPWP as amazing as it is. I think their exploration of gaze on this record refined it enough to make it perfect for their latest effort.
Put another way: Sunbather ran and Infinite Granite walked so that LPWP could fly.

LPWP is on the verge of being one of the most overrated albums of all time, if it's not there already.

Irate's Burden of A Crumbling Society is better agreed

Totally agree, MTO
I think the fact that Amethyst and, to a lesser Extent, Marvelous Orange Tree, take everything that they attempted on this album and wipe the floor with it shows how much they learned from this experiment.
I'm not gonna fault anyone for not liking this one, but I do think it's pretty clear that it was necessary for the band to truly move onward and upward

Agreed. Although I still maintain that in blur and great mass of colour are two of the best songs they've written.

some of this commentary reads real gauche, I'll tell you h'what.
listen, I mean the point's moot now, but in its original defense: it's servicable in that it *approaches* the genre's tenants. It's obviously not gonna collect a ringing endorsement from like Kevin Shields or w/e, but does it meander towards it enough to earn some gaze points? Sure.
Servicable.
Wild 2 entertain genre litigation in 2025.

gauche is always an appropriate word for this band
and that's a lot of lines of text with no mention of a single act whose 'bar' this actually clears

I did some sCiEnTIFiC research and came to the conclusion that this would clear many bars if anyone was to actually put it on in public

or it possibly ties with the latest Alcest and Whirr records
that's all I've got

my friend, this is not that deep, i promise
i'm not saying they sound like _______, or that they even have to. I'm simply saying that it is okay if a group of boys makes songs that sound like parts of songs that other groups of boys/girls make, and then refer to them as sounding similar. The bar of sounding similar to other songs? We cleared it. Bam. Look at that.
the funny thing is exactly the same boring conversation all the 'trve kvlt' keyboard warriors had over this band a whole decade ago, smh.
|
| |
okay but
>. At the project's worst, it at least clears the servicable shoegaze bar.
that's a hefty goalpost shift from the claim you made here (i.e. that even the worst of this record compares favourably against the genre's spuriously-referenced average). either stick to your guns or don't ig

lol, no goalpost shifting here, you're just over-interpreting my words so i'll break it down: even at it's worst this project services my gaze need, to admittedly varying degrees. sometimes it sounds heady, sometimes it sounds big, and sometimes it doesn't, and that's fine by me
I think you just really dislike this band, and it obfuscates yr ability to see the arguably poster blackgaze band as being able to actually provide the gaze, which is strange.

though if that was too many lines of text, here's a tldr: sometimes it do be gazin', and that is enough. amen.
