This is a 5 because it combines the bludgeoning, larger-than-life aesthetic of Vermis but also conveys discernible emotions and it makes me feel thingz
FTR the CD is not a 5 but the LP is

yeah, like the climax point of await rescission doesn't convey discernible emotions
in fact in my opinion it does more than any song off this, but maybe i need more listens

So question, is it the record label that decides the CD gets a different mastering from the LP? Like someone had to listen to this before it went to packaging and shipping and been like man the vinyl sounds great, let's fuck up the CD version because honestly screw people that buy them

I honestly don't mind the mastering. Could it be better? Yeah, most albums could be.

It's just frustrating because the music is so amazing but the CD mastering is so bad
Having listened to my own LP rip prob 100 times by now I'm genuinely perplexed as to how Merat thought the CD master did the music (his own drumming, in particular) justice
The CD is still a 4-4.5 IMO but it is a classic example of how brickwalling can tarnish an otherwise perfect experience

I like the CD version more in the car but the LP version more with headphones. can barely make it through the entire CD version with cans. the brickwall and their style makes it an exhausting listen.

"like a supernova sweeping all in its wake."

They really nailed the whole concept of creating physical space with sound on this one.
