I think BMTH are all genius'd out tbh, we peaked with Sempiternal

I can't agree on that account. I think their lyrics are rather good. Sure, "Happy Song" and "True Friends" aren't the best songs on the album, but that shouldn't reflect on songs like "Doomed" and "Avalanche" that have good lyrics. In objective terms, "Happy Song" and "True Friends" were experimental tracks. "True Friends," in particular, was experimenting with the emo formula, so Bring Me the Horizon wrote lyrics to match the tone. Emo songs typically have very simplistic and straightforward lyrics. "Happy Song" was more of a melodic tune that is intended to parody the pop formula.

I don't mind That's The Spirit, but the problem with 'True Friends' and 'Happy Song' is they're just extremely standard generic radio rock tracks by comparison of the far superior material BMTH has released in the past, regardless of how much BMTH were maybe just experimenting by making them. 'Doomed', 'Oh No' and 'Blasphemy' are far more interesting material-wise and actually display a little growth from the band, but this album is nothing close to the level of There Is A Hell and Sempiternal.
If BMTH release another stellar album, I'll definitely be happy about it, but I honestly think they've peaked.

Growth is a tricky term to throw around. One could argue that Bring Me the Horizon has grown in terms of variety, but quality is a subjective thing to analyze. I agree with you in the sense that both "Happy Song" and "True Friends" are radio friendly songs and are far from the best on the album, but I don't think this album symbolizes a peak. Comparing the album to "There is a Hell..." and "Sempiternal" is irrational. All three of the albums are different from each other and share little similarities. Not to mention a fan can't expect growth if they compare newer efforts to previous ones. If a band were to remain the same each album, there would be no growth.

I agree that a bands growth is often displayed through pursuing new styles etc, but to be honest my comparison of That's The Spirit vs There Is A Hell... and Sempiternal is far more focused on the overall quality of the music, regardless whether or not opinion of quality is subjective.
In fact, I agree. It is subjective, but comparing the three albums isn't exactly an irrational thing to do; every band, director, artist, musician etc will always have their latest piece of work compared to what came before. Perhaps we shouldn't, but it's human nature to compare, and judge how good it holds up to what was previously released.
All I'm saying is that I personally don't feel That's The Spirit comes anywhere near the level of quality of the two previous albums, due to the fact that it feels somewhat generic at places and the writing just isn't that great, especially lyrically. But that's just my opinion, yours is just as valid (:

You have a valid point as well, and I do agree that although quality is subjective, the album may not have the same value as their older works, but I personally do not judge albums in that way. When using "There is a Hell..." and "Sempiternal" as examples, one has to consider different factors aside from aesthetic appeal. "That's the Spirit" was released in a different era than the former. The metalcore scene was going through a change in that era and was gaining new footing. When Bring Me the Horizon released "That's the Spirit," it was their way of stepping away from the metalcore scene to provide the genre with some much needed breathing room. When considering those reasons, I simply can't use those standards in analyzing their music. "That's the Spirit" isn't as good as "There is a Hell..." and "Sempiternal" because it wasn't supposed to be.

You can't name one record from 2015 that is better than That's the Spirit
Name me one other record from 2015 that contains tracks that every person you see, no matter where you go, is singing tracks from.
Go to the Hoover Dam...people are singing True Friends
Go to Vegas...people are singing Oh No
Go to Flagstaff.... people are singing Avalanche
Go to Toronto..people are singing What You Need
Go to Norway...people are singing Throne
Go to AlbaKeepo La Entiro Semana De Ville...people are singing Drown
Go to Shop-Rite, the cashiers are screaming the lyrics to Doomed.
To each other....not even paying attention to customers, just screaming out the lyrics to many cuts on That's the Spirit..
You can tell it's their favorite record!! LOL

If this is true then maybe instead of 'screaming the lyrics to Doomed' they're literally just screaming?

It's fair to say 2015 had some rather shifting albums that dropped. "The Pale Emperor" was a surprisingly good effort from Marilyn Manson as he decided to write real music for the first time in a while. I must say, I was quite impressed. "Beneath the Skin" was also a strong album that came out of nowhere. For an indie rock band, Of Monsters and Men are considerable diverse from what I was expecting. And, of course, Chris Cornell delivered another classic from his solo career. JoyousRide08 is obviously giving this album more credit than due. I have literally seen no one doing that. You must either spend a lot of time in Hot Topic or have a very small social group.
