Love this album to death, its in my top 5, and MCDB is my favorite song, but Jenkins is actually kind of a douche and they honestly kind of suck live. I've seen them twice and they mailed it in both times.

Yeah I've heard they kinda suck live, but eh I suppose it's still worth going in any case.

They played a solid show when I saw them at the Hollywood Palladium on the Ursa Major tour.

How's It Going to Be and The Background are my favorites on this for sure. Fantastic album.
I wish they could re-create this magic again but it seems like everything after the debut hasn't been nearly as good.

"Lightning in a bottle. Right place, right time."
didn't SJ fire some main players (including the guitarist) after this one though? i always felt that was the big thing that kept them from ever really getting to these heights again

I have never listened to this album before today but am I crazy when Stephen Jenkins comes off as a self-absorbed prick on this album, and not nearly as deep or sensitive as this review tries to paint him as? I mean, in Losing a Whole Year he says makes fun of this girl for having a rich family by saying "your voice sounds like money..." and within the same verse says "and now I realize that you have never heard one god damned thing I ever said" Jenkins just compared her talking to money dribbling out of her mouth, and she's the one that doesn't hear you? He talks about how she won't fuck him, makes fun of her for taking prozac, and for finding a community on the internet? Like fuck you dude. He just keeps playing like he's this tragic victim, while treating these women like absolute garbage. Thanks a lot, London, and Alright Caroline also being particularly gross examples of this. God of Wine is the only song that goes off as genuine, and that's because he's singing about his alcoholic mother, which I can believe since this dude definitely has mommy issues
I'm sorry, but I have to believe that anyone who relates to this album in any way has to be a terrible person. I would rate this lower, but Sputnik literally just gives me a blank page saying "No" when I try.
