At the Heart of Winter is really good though. I think you might like it if you decide to check it sometime.

Darkspace is somewhere up there off the top of my head

@manosg: Even though I don't like black metal?

Ovdeath gorgoroth doesn't fucking suck, that's not even objectively true. However darkthrone are awesome. Jamie immortal look HILARIOUS there's no denying that but they are probably the most accessible BM band

"Even though I don't like black metal?"
Maybe. The true challenge is the Popeye vox. If you manage to get past through them, the guitar work is very good. It's really thrashy and the production is nothing like traditional lo fi black metal.

I generally prefer less accessible, rawer black metal if anything (although I'm probably thinking more about first wave black metal in that regard), cleaner, more accessible black metal probably appeals to me the least.

The quiet middle section was alright (should have been longer) but the rest didn't really do anything for me. Heard worse though.

@Jamie
Yeah At the Heart of Winter is definitely cleaner that the early stuff but knowing your love about good thrash I think you'll find the album interesting. I'm not into black metal myself but it's one of the albums I enjoy.
Oh, another one that might interest you is La Masquerade Infernale by Arcturus. It's very different than Immortal and traditional black metal in the sense that it's got a lot of avant-garde elements which might appeal to you.

Oh, didn't see your comment about liking rawer BM. Definitely listen to Darkspace, especially Dark Space III if you think that's you cup of tea

@manosg: Listened to some Arcturus once (cos Garm) but I felt kinda indifferent towards them.
|

Black Metal that's practically dark ambient is probably the most up my street, not that I've ever really bothered to explore that properly.
Besides first wave that is (which is mostly more like death-thrash anyway).

You'd prolly dig Paysage d'Hiver then JT
|

The mixing of space and BM is seriously fucking awesome
|

Heard some Darkspace, not a fan of them either.
I'll be honest, I don't really have any desire to get into black metal. I've heard plenty of stuff from the genre and there's just so much other music I'd rather listen to.
|
| |
@Key: Paysage are one BM band I've been mildly interested in exploring.
