For sure. I think part of it for me was because Orchid was one of my first Opeth albums as a teenager (hell, I reviewed that album back in 2010-2011 timeframe under my Necro username) so I'll always be a bit sentimental towards it

Yeah, Opeth are one of those bands like Death where my opinions have changed so much over the last decade that it's hard to imagine what my initial opinions even were at this point

Yeah I can relate. I guess this just happens with bands that manage to stay with you over the years? But I definitely feel the same way. Heritage is a prime example. Hated it at first, was kind of indifferent to it, but one day it turned my world upside down and I've considered it as one of their best ever since.

Yeah, I'm not quite there with Heritage yet. Don't get me wrong, I can tell why people love it. It just feels kinda… hollow and unfinished to me for some reason. I always kinda chalked it up to being the band's first true foray into 70s prog, but I'll listen to it again and see if my opinions change. There are certain albums in that era I really enjoy a lot, like Sorceress for example

Opeth are definitely one of those few special bands where picking any of their records as your favorite is an understandable choice. Not many bands get to lay claim to something like that
