Sweet. I will indeed stay tuned.

I've only heard it like once more before but I remember thinking the first half destroyed the second half. We'll see though
Just did the same with Watershed and liked it a lot more than previously so high hopes

The middle section of Heritage is the best part imo. I love all of it though really expect maybe Famine which isn't that great. The Lines in My Hand isn't one of my favourites either but it's still good. Second half has Folklore though which is up there with the best tracks on the album.

I can't remember specific tracks so much but I seem to remember that the Lines in My Hand was basically one verse over and over which annoyed me

Also the Throat of Winter is a really cool song that not many people seem to talk about
|
| |
Yeah The Lines in My Hand is a bit repetitive.
People probably don't talk about Throat of Winter much because it's not part of the actual album, just a bonus track.

Mmm its very good outside of the two songs you mentioned before
Favourite is I Feel the Dark
|
| |
I Feel the Dark is prob my 3rd or 4th favourite. Haxprocess is my favourite track without a doubt and one of my favourite Opeth songs overall.

Yeah that was a very good one as well but I feel like Dark had it all, starts off really beautifully and then ends very ominously with the "when you're going out to waaaarrr" part which is just chilling

The best tracks are the bonus tracks, Haxprocess, and lines
|
| |
lol at Lines being one of the best songs, that's one of the only low points on the album imo.

New album should be sweet.
Mikael does what he wants and he can't please everybody, but I respect the man for his willingness to change things up, it takes a bold man to do that.

Lines actually makes sense as a song, which can't be said for 75% of the album.

To each their own. I find the whole of Heritage (apart from Lines and maybe Famine) more interesting than this album overall.

It's certainly an interesting sound he's created on Heritage, even if it is derivative. My issues with that album are purely compositional, not stylistic. I love prog rock dearly - it was the first genre of music I got into when I "seriously" started listening to music. I think part of the issue is with Mikael's songwriting. Before, the cut-and-paste approach worked well because the structural oddities were relatively well hidden beneath the homogeneity created by that peculiar atmosphere of metal riffs and acoustic pieces. I think that abandoning that lifted the veil off of Mike's songwriting, and it didn't turn out for the better.
Even so, I'm still looking forward to the new album. I have hope that Mike will back off a little from this style and that will help refocus his songwriting.

I'm not usually a fan of throwback prog but there's something about Heritage that makes it stand out for me. I think it's the quality of the musicianship that I love the most about it, especially the rhythm section, there's some real creativity in their playing. I find the song writing to be interesting throughout (except The Lines in My Hand), Haxprocess in particular is a fantastic composition. The music isn't the most cohesive but I find it consistently interesting and entertaining, more so than a lot of other Opeth albums.
