lol I’m just trying to give the song a fighting chance. I love Interpol on Turn on the Bright Lights, that’s the only record of theirs I come back to consistently. And to be clear, I don’t see myself really revisiting any songs but the closer.

They did and this is the problem here; the new album is completely devoid of engaging or well written melodies. They honestly sound amateurish, especially the last track. Paracletus has *a lot* of melody within it, but not your bog standard MGLA kind. The fact that it’s mid tempo isn’t a problem, either; a lot of their best riffs and most compelling passages were slower paced. The outro to Kenose III is a good example of how they were able to slow things right down whilst still keeping the high quality. Also, listen to 2:30 onwards in the track Bread Of Bitterness as an example of how well they created atmosphere and tension by slowing down.
Also, putting aside the fact that Aspa is human garbage, the vocals on this new album are a huge step down in the way they’re integrated in to the music.

My entire signal chain for my deck is analogue so ripping it isn't really an option and I'm not about to swap my iFi Zen Phono box for anything with a digital out (it just sounds too good to swap for anything else). Sorry Jac! But if I did, you know I'd be uploading it as a 24/192 file!
