I do not know this "organic pop" you speak of.

A Fine Frenzy, Feist, Regina Spektor, Sara Bareilles, Missy Higgins, etc. as opposed to Lights, Gaga, BS and the like. If there's a better word for pianos and/or acoustic guitars (as opposed to synths, electronic beats and sometimes autotune) then by all means point it out.

See with my logic I'd throw all those under indie. Doesn't mean it's correct though.

@ Neutral from pages ago: I like The Volta, yes, but they aren't a jazz band. They are definitely interested and inspired by ideas from jazz, but they are much more a cross between punk and prog than anything else, their jazz influence really only shines through in the way Omar directs the band and their long modal freakouts, but they don't resemble a jazz group at all. But what jazz fusion gave birth to as far as the jazz world is concerned is mainly just utter garbage. I'm sure you'd agree that the whole jazz fusion thing has long overstayed it's welcome, which can be proven by the terrible butcherings of jazz standards that you now hear playing everywhere from airports to casino hotel bathrooms. I'm not saying Miles wasn't more important than Coltrane; he was. Coltrane to me though, just represents the ultimate and perfect realization of the potential of jazz as an art form and especially as a forum for improvisation. You don't have to agree, it's just the way I feel.

Oh yeah and My Favorite Things > Kind Of Blue, no doubt. Can't think of a better combo than Coltrane and Tyner laying down some of their best work on the same cuts.

After listening through this album, trying to figure out what the big deal is about this, I have come to this realization... Though in terms of talent they have it, there is one memorable riff on the album, (Jane Doe, the title track) and there is not one time when the singer doesn't make me want to change songs... I love the title track, and like a few other songs, but by NO means is this a 4.4... I gave it a 2 because if an album is average, I can listen to it. It bores me, but it's listenable... This however, I can't stand to listen to for the most part. I am a guitarist and personally think that this was a rather bad cd in the guitar department, and the wretched vocals don't help either. The only redeeming things about the album is that it is complicated, and the vocals are mixed far in the back... I did not like it, and I don't honestly know what is so great about this cd...

...and how many times did you listen to this?

And there is NO way that this is bland in the guitar department. You also said nothing about the emotional prospect of this, which is the most important part, on top of the amazing songs and sound (that takes getting used to).

You know I had a lot of trouble getting into this for awhile, and then one day fault and fracture clicked and I slowly started liking more and more of it. I fell in love with concubine, fault and fracture, and homewrecker. There are a lot of other songs on here that I like a lot, but as a whole my love for this fell short of where I expected it to be, and I quit listening for a long time.

Thaw and Jane Doe are awesome, but I don't think I ever liked them as much as other people did (and as much as I liked some of the other songs off her).

That's not to say it isn't good, I think 4- Excellent is very accurate. I'm just upset that I don't think it's the same classic that everyone else seems to think it is.

We Are the Romans is something that should be listened to prior to this. If you don't like that, you won't like it.

Alright. Here it goes. I cannot feel any of the emotion in these songs. I've read the lyrics but I can just not hear it through the music or vocals. There just is no real emotion coming out of the dudes mouth, just the RAAAAHHHHHHs. Maybe one day it'll click, but I doubt it.
