haha i guessed you'd pick those two
they are worse songs than both about today and all dolled-up agreed
but like
they are very very important in terms of flow and connectivity in the bigger picture of an album
sequencing is tough man makes me wonder like how many albums would be totally different beasts by simply rearranging the running order

Yeah again its not like they're bad but for a man of Berninger's prowess a line like "lit up, lit up alright" seems lazy at best
And Val Jester is really gorgeous especially the "most important people in New York are nineteen" part so I dunno
I agree sequencing is a hell of a hard one to figure out. It was definitely necessary to have a slower, spacier track between Friend of Mine and All The Wine but About Today could've fit perfectly there as well
Dunno where I'd put Dolled-Up though

ok very important question
if the national were an australian band
do you think they would have called this album
crocodile
???

Album Rating: 5.0
Depends!
Are we talking like fake "we're slightly ashamed of being Australian" like Silverchair or are we talking full-rockin-bogan Australian like Grinspoon

shit man tough call
if they embraced the aussieness too hard it'd be all like
'all the sickest cunts in wagga wagga are 19'
which would ruin everything
fuck

not sure what matt means by it at all but the way i apply it to my own life - which is what so much of this
band's music is good for (its malleability) - is that feeling of being with a relatively inexperienced girl
and going to town on her and then sneaking off into the night after she falls asleep

it's a continuation of the same feeling that permeates all the wine; that eight drink sweet spot where you feel invincible
