This is practically instrumental right?

Not that I dislike that I really like instrumental stuff.

No, the only instrumental is Altered Course, but you may get that impression because the vocals blend in nicely, whole band comes together in the best way possible.

Wow really? I got that sense from having long stretches of barely hearing vocals.

Maybe i was distracted.

I like everything ISIS (the band) have put out but all their albums require your full attention

Hahaha “first ISIS” is understating it. Reading back on this review this seems to be the first metal album I ever liked

Used to share that opinion tbh, I think I started changing my mind after listening to the Quake 2 OST. The harsh vocals were the toughest part to get into, the album that made me appreciate them for the first time was the second Insomnium, which I listened to around the same time I joined the site

Vocals were by far the biggest barrier to metal yah

My biggest barrier to new genres is everything sounding the same to me.

I have that problem with some extreme forms of metal. I've heard enough now to know it's not the case but it still bores me to death to hear metal albums where the drummer just pounds away on the pedals nonstop for entire songs.

Mhmm, initial listen was good. It's what I expected sonically, but the songs pulled me in easily, and I was engaged throughout.
