Fair enough guys, I was pretty drunk when I wrote that last night lol. Essentially, they have become better and tighter musicians — as most anyone does with practice — but many bands lose that passionate spark even as they improve as musicians, and their albums become technically proficient but bland.

But that being said, I think EoS is one of their best albums (Blood Mt and CtS are 1 and 2 though).

You can become exponentially better as a musician but still write shittier and shittier songs. Not saying that Mastodon did that (I'd almost argue they did tho), but musical talent doesn't always equate to better songwriting / musical output
