Sigh, maybe we should be asking ourselves how people can possibly enjoy shit like Brokencyde or Bring Me the Horizon.

lol @Sniper. Actually I somewhat agree. Miles was the better and more intelligent musician, and his fusion records are his best, but as for simply the bop days, John Coltrane DOES have the slight advantage, because he has more technical skill, and he is prolly my second favorite jazz musician, but Miles is better. John Coltrane has never produced anything as shattering as "A Tribute to Jack Johnson" or "Sketches of Spain". Also, yeah Coltrane's solos were probably the best part of Kind of Blue, but Miles literally INVENTED Modal jazz with that album so you shouldn't even use that as an example.

Bring Me the Horizon's music isn't the worst in the world, I'll admit that
I just HATE Oli Skyes with a burning passion

"being involved in a movement doesn't make you a better musician"- never said that. Miles IS just a better and more forward-thinking musician. Also: "come on, being
responsible for fusion detracts from his track record more than enhancing it"- now I know you have no idea what you are talking about brah.

Eh, Bring Me The Horizon are alright in my book. I second hating Sykes, though....

you like Volta right? Volta IS a latin/jazz-fusion alt-rock band, so saying that fusion is a bad thing makes you a moron. Come on dude, saying modal and free doesn't mean you know shit about jazz.

So MJ what music do you like?

Album Rating: 3.0
So, screams merit a 2. Does this mean classical music could be rated low by an individual because they value, say.... screams or even just vocals?
It all depends on what we value. Nothing is worthless to everyone. I think it's a waste of energy entirely condemning a genre.

I can't show you otherwise. That, to revisit my analogy, would be like trying to get a chocolate hater to enjoy a kind of chocolate.
I think any genre can produce something of value. Or so I theorize.

(I realize this was a couple pages back but it was less than an two hours ago and I type kinda slow...)
But there should be something in each genre that you love.
Except deathcore and modern pop.
WHOOOOOOOAAAA hold on there. Boy bands, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, etc. do not speak for all modern pop artists at all, which is what I have to assume this statement is based on. Trash talking Top 40 is perfectly fine with me, but leave the rest (especially more "organic" pop) out of this, please.

This all goes back to all the hate that metal and hardcore get..
It isn't about melody or anything. It's all about sounding good and having emotion. A song reflecting agony should actually reflect agony in the song's sound, via screams and dissonance.
|
| |
I do not know this "organic pop" you speak of.
