I don't even mean it in a mean way though just being honest ¯_(ツ)_/¯
and this hits particularly close to home because I hated this album when I first heard it then tried listening more and more and eventually liked it a long time ago and it opened many doors for my taste
(not saying there aren't legit reasons for not liking this!! (this guys just doesn't have one))

Sure...I guess less is more? If this is complex to you that is great. But trying to explain to me how this is complex just makes it sound more ridiculous. I understand music just fine thanks.
I gave it a try. I'm giving one more album a try. No benefit in arguing how this is complex.

"And I'm simply saying that the reason this isn't 'grabbing' you is, because coming from a background or lack thereof such as yours there's almost always a little effort needed to appreciate music like this, as silly as that sounds, because it's much more complex"
I would argue that this isn't more complex than something like Tool. It's just different.

it's not "complex to me" lol, it's an album with deeper contextual and sonic elements than a lot of other stuff, objectively, ie a lot of the music you like (not that there's anything wrong with that!!)
and did you not at least appreciate the jazz comparison?
I would argue that this isn't more complex than something like Tool. It's just different.
sigh...

I can see though how me using the words "random sounds" lead you to think the way you are though. I just realized that I actually said it that way. I dont mean random literally. I dont know if I can explain how I mean it. I understand what they are doing with this music. It just doesn't do anything for me.

@Sea
Why don't you listen to Third Eye and then get back to me on conversations about complexity.

"sigh..."
I will say that Tool is definitely more complex than this. Time signatures proves that in and of itself.

I think you're trying to say that the parts with the samples weren't for you which is understandable.
But whatever floats your boat, again at least you tried it.

Tool is definitely more pseudo-complex than this yea

what's your point? being able to enjoy more complex doesn't somehow negate my experience with music that's more simplistic if it's still incredibly well-done in other aspects like the national, gaslight anthem, tallest man
is that what you're implying?
Well I don't know about point but the reason that crossed my mind was by the whole "I used to listen to RHCP and Strokes". No one's talking about simplistic music, more like easy to get into music
National, Tallest Man, Gaslight Anthem and even this band all have massive followings, so attempting to use any of them as an excuse for understanding "complex and subtle" music and shit is a little backwards, and well, if that many people can it, then really enjoying it or "understanding it" is nothing new nor difficult. They're bands that have a wide enough appeal to work for anyone. You regularly see people being like "I don't like post rock but i like godspeed" and what not. This obviously doesn't mean in anyway that they're worst than whatever other band from their particular genre, it simply means that they're a go to band to anyone who is big enough fan of music. Most people who "mostly listen to RHCP and Strokes" aren't inherently uncapable of liking godspeed or anything, they just haven't been exposed to it.
and no, enjoying more complex acts doesn't mean you can't enjoy simplistic acts --Especially because sometimes the simplicity adds to the complexity. "Less is more".
Generally though my post wasn't really made to make a point of the sort --- I was mostly taking the piss, because that's what I always do, and I'm pretty sure that is also what six was doing. So why did I write all this shit I dunno, I guess it was boredom; Just my two centz.

whatever - I'm just saying that, based on the limited music you've rated, I find it very unlikely that you understand what you think you do... i.e. the example with jazz... remember how I thought I understood it and that it was shit based on my lack of experience?... this often happens when the listener isn't listening for the right things and ends up completely missing the point (I wrote earlier about how this can be avoided).
I will say that Tool is definitely more complex than this. Time signatures proves that in and of itself.
like lol this couldn't prove my point any better...
... maybe we can stay away from the word "complex" then? sounds like you're taking it too literally - making like, Protest the Hero and BTBAM what bands should strive for or something lol

this is literally all I was trying to say
I'm just saying that when this is the case, as was with me, it takes more knowledge/listening and likely doesn't come effortlessly

Why is Tool being used as an example of complexity (or non complexity if you will) though? Even though complexity is subjective, both Godspeed's complexity and Tool's are totally different.
