I cant get That south park episode where Randy Marsh sneaks downstairs to play Guitar hero. Its like that If Deathspellls Dads all came down and dressed up as there sons awesome band and knocked out some lame mid temp versions thinking theyre awesome.

A massive letdown in the context of DsO’s discog, but still a good black metal album when evaluated in a total vacuum. It’s remarkably safe for them, though, which is easily the most disappointing aspect. Probably their worst since INQUISITORS OF SATAN. But hardly a bad album, all things considered.

yeah anyone that thinks it’s “bad” is tripping balls. Even in the context of the bands own discography or whatever it’s still a damn good record.
I’d put it above their first two easily, above Synarchy, Mass Grave, and Diablous but probably below everything else. Very middle of the pack imo

For sure. The angular guitars and spastic songwriting were what I really liked about the band originally, but this record feels more like it’s trying to create a dark atmosphere, it feels meditative almost at points.
Ill want my fix of regular DsO back but this new one is still some really solid bm. Excited to read the lyrics along with it.

definitely really solid. it will get a too harsh rating because of the context of their discography but compared to a lot of modern black metal it's still really good

Apart from more than half of it is just run of the mill, mid tempo, lifeless and the Vox are probably the worst on an modern era Deathspell? yeah apart from that it rules

I would definitely not go so far as to say it’s lifeless, that’s pretty harsh and a stretch considering it just came out today. But yeah very mid tempo, but I feel like that’s the majority of Metal in the last decade or so. There’s been a definitive push toward mid tempo instead of pure fury / speed

If it came out today or in 3 weeks is irrelevant to whether it's lifeless or not. You could say my judgement of it being lifeless could be hurried as it only out today but otherwise it has no bearing at all
Also that's a weirdly huge umbrella statement. Metal has been getting mid tempo for a decade?? Haha what? It hasn't. What metal? Fking Ghost might be. Death metal is death metal, doom metal is doom etc etc etc I can't really wrap my head around that statement at all sorry. There is not some collective slowing down across multiple sub genres.
