Definitely. Pretty much my main gripe with this, as it seems to be a conscious decision. I remember when this first leaked, being appalled and thinking it must've been a bad rip. Especially coming off the back of the immaculately produced Ashes, it was a huge shock to the system.

I've gotten used to it though, so it's not as much of a detractor as it used to be. Think it actually kind of suits songs like Black Lake Nidstang

black lake nidstang is a staggering piece of music. the first time i heard it i was blown away the second those tortured as fuck vocals came in. the main problem i have with it is that i just never really want to hear it

the only song I'll occasionally listen to on it's own from this is Ghosts (and Into the Painted Grey once in a while) otherwise I get the urge to jam the album somewhat regularly and enjoy from front to back everytime

yeah those are the two i will jam standalone and sometimes some watchers monolith. otherwise its front to back. i jam more individual tracks from other albums, mostly ashes. those tracks probably work the best as standalones (besides the our fortress tracks obviously)

Even with Ashes I'll mostly just jam Falling Snow or Fire Above alone otherwise it's front to back. Used to listen to Not Unlike the Waves as well but the mood doesn't strike me as much for that one anymore unless I'm hearing it in the context of the album.

Mantle I think I've only ever jammed front to back and PF sometimes I'll listen to the opening trilogy on it's own and otherwise it's the full album there too

Tbh PF is probably the album I know the least well by these guys too. It's weird how, when I listen to it, I enjoy it more than this but I still don't get the urge to listen to it as often as this (I don't get it either).

yeah i'm not trve enough to like PF. that sloppy playing/songwriting/production doesn't really do it for me

It still bothers me that this came out four years ago. Blah. Doesn't seem any more than two years

old. :/
