Ruiner is so goddamn wicked
"You had them all on your side
Didn't you? Didn't you?"
That line especially is haunting

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10050_Cielo_Drive#Nine_Inch_Nails has a quote by Reznor regarding that convo with Tate's sister, and the sobering experience it gave him.

i rly dont like the rock stuff here so much. takes me out of the album when u got some rly funky electronic soundscape shit going on and suddenly i hear weird ziggy guitars or straightforward heavy metal riffs - cool things that don't work well together on this record
also some of this screams "blockbuster action movie music" and im not so big on that either
but still very cool. i swore off this album when i tried at as a teen and im glad i decided to give it another try now bc there is still some awesome shit going on
like i can see why this is one of the only industrial records to really go full mainstream

closer is just such an insanely incredible song that i think it completely eclipses the rest of the album. which is weird bc i just read abt how trent set out specifically to make this a concept album/soundscape

Excuse me sir, the production here is like 3x better than Mozart's - that matters to me! Plus, the literal meaning of music is meaningless. On this album we have just another human spouting human bullshit, and he's much self-aware about it. No ideas and lyrics are more mature than others... we're all full of shit and Trent knows it very well. This is fun and hugely entertaining, like America. That's why this is much more mature than Nick Cave and other little girls with beard who are pretending they know life.
