sumac records will become classics in their right (and other records from mid-‘10s let’s give it time), they’re just opuses in a sea of millions of things to stream when back then people had to work on downloading/streaming/buying ISIS records fostering more of a relationship that people don’t put much time into because it’s so easy to skip/fast forward/move on to the next thing with spotify ADHD culture

Are these guys hard to get into or am i weird?

Heard this two or three times and it still hasn't clicked.

ya it took me a few weeks to click. maybe pull up a lyrics sheet while you spin it for some reference points in the songs. they seemed like just long mushes of sound until I had that roadmap.

Yeah it takes some time, most post rock takes time (for me).

This album immediately clicked with me, but their others took some time. This and Truth are probably their best albums to start with.

Never experienced that issue tbh. My first post-metal album was eye of the storm, I was instantly in love with it. Then I heard Oceanic, same story. Remember buying complete neurosis and isis discographies on amazon a couple days later.

@wolfe

Honestly, no Sumac album has hit me as hard as Oceanic or Panopticon so far, but they are all excellent regardless. Perhaps time will tell.

Start with Wavering Radiant and work your way backwards. I actually started with Celestial and worked perfectly as an introduction but that may be just me.

I also started with Wavering Radiant, before I had ever listened to any other post/sludge metal. It was quite immediate, though this was also the case for Oceanic and Panopticon later on.

Yeah this was an instant hit the first time I listened to it. I knew I could get into this band the moment I heard this, Wavering, Mosquito Control and Celestial. Oceanic and Absence took more time to grow but at this point I can confidently say Isis is my favorite post-metal band.
