The lack of a unifying theme is what hurts this album, it also loses energy after The Lotus Eater.
Porcelain Heart has a killer opening riff, but the song as a whole doesnt have much going for it, also Hex Omega is very much the same. I wish they changed the track order, because having the most energetic songs near the start makes the latter part of the album rather dull at times.

Yeah Hessian Peel is pretty good, but this album really needed more vocal variety in the middle.
Theres essentially two ballads in Burden and Porcelain Heart. Two ballads in a row just doesnt work.
Comparing this to other Opeth albums and its a 3, but on its own merits I guess a 3.5 is right. Its a
very low 3.5 though.

Never been too fond of Hex Omega. One of my least favourite Opeth songs.

"Burden", "Hex Omega" and "Coil" are great off here but not a lot else. "Hessian Peel" is alright but too long. "Coil" opens things up nicely and has the nice dynamic of some female vocals; "Hex Omega" is just typical Opeth and "Burden" is a beautiful ballad
