Chino once said that for him SNW is their worst because of how they put it together. Instead of being in the studio they were sending parts back and forth - and I think you can clearly hear that. The transitions are always pretty sudden and it just doesn't feel harmonic to me. White Pony, Diamond Eyes, S/T are their best for me

Always surprised to see this has the highest average. Probably my least favorite Deftones album, or at least contending with the S/T for the bottom spot.

Still good though because Deftones really do no wrong.

For me the stretch of SNW->Diamond Eyes->KNY is the most interesting.

I think the production here is really thin and the songwriting is generally just unremarkable. Of course there are a few songs I think are great, like Digital Bath.

See, I grew up listening to this album in high school so maybe that’s the difference. Diamond is my third fav though.

Diamond Eyes and KNY are my favorite ones of theirs. This would be next on the list though

this has the most variety of all their albums without losing the Deftones flair

Still wish they’d released an entire heavy album of the quality of Elite and Korea at some stage of their career :’(

What do you s/t lovers think is the reason behind that relatively poor Sput average? A lot of the fans here seem to cite that one as a highlight. I still haven’t checked anything beyond this one.

Because it’s dark, depressing, plodding, a slow burn etc. In general, it requires some time and patience to appreciate. And it wasn’t really what people were expecting after WP. A bit more appreciated now though.

The self titled also has some really uneventful dullard tracks on it for me, esp the last two

Tracks 1,2,3,6 and 9 are real good - some of the rest screams filler to me

I'd probably say it's on the same level as KNY and Gore.

Caco, try Around The Fur/Diamond Eyes next.

Doof, I partly agree. Moana is an underwhelming closer. Bloody Cape is awesome though.

Bloody Cape is actually probably one of my top 10 DT songs in general

Yeah Bloody Cape is possibly my fave on the album (or Hex or Telephone) - but then I like Korea and Elite the best on this so no surprise
